The 4,000 ha, Bonamanzi Private Game Park was proclaimed a natural heritage site in 1995 for it’s diverse habitats and it’s outstanding natural features such as it’s view over False Bay and St Lucia.
Holding many surprises for its visitors, the varied accommodation is complimented by diverse terrain that never ceases to surprise one. A game drive on this reserve will include a journey through the magical and mysterious fever tree forest, savannah grasslands, dense sand forests, vast swamp lands and the ever changing Hluhluwe river with it’s abundant bird life.
The animals that you could encounter at Bonamanzi include amongst others, Elephant, Leopard, Giraffe, Zebra, Wilderbeest, Crocodile, Hippo, varied antelope species, Warthog and Hyena. Threathened species such as the four toed elephant shrew, suni, reed duiker and birds such as the Pink throated Twinspot, Rudd's Apalis, Neergaards Sunbird, and the lemon breasted canary.
Rhinos have recently been re–introduced and are settling well. If this is not enough for you then Bonamanzi is a mere ten minute drive from the famous Hluhluwe Imfolfozi Park with the big 5. The great thing about Bonamanzi is, besides the game drives you are able to do guided walking safaris as well as unguided walks as there are well laid out trails for the adventurous. The rangers at Bonamanzi provide all the “scientific” information on the flora and fauna as well as a host of tales on the local folk lore.
Keeping children occupied at Bonamanzi is no a problem, as all the Camps have swimming pools and there is a children’s play ground at Lalapanzi Camp. There is also a daily crocodile and tortoise educational tour. Activities are not only restricted to walks and game drives, as The Hluhluwe River offers guests the opportunity of participating in superb river safaris, which are particularly suitable for guests who appreciate birds.
The accommodation is as varied as the acitivities with catered and self catered accommodation from 4 star right through to camping!
Bonamanzi is well known for their Tree Houses, these wooden units, on stilts, are privately situated amongst the trees of the sand forest. There are units that offer one or two bedrooms and all have self catering facilities.
The Tree Lodge offers 3 bedrooms, lounge, dining room and kitchen all on a raised deck with wonderful views of a nearby water hole. Sleeping 6 adults in total the Tree Lodge is perfectly positioned in the sand forest. The more conventional Game Lodge offers self catering accommodation for 8 adults.
Four star Dinizulu Lodge has three individual units sleeping six adults with a charming dining room/lounge/entertainment area. This lodge is situated on the banks of the Dinizulu Lake and is very private.
Lalapanzi Camp offers catered en suite accommodation for fifty two guests. The restaurant serves either buffet or set menu meals, depending on the number of guests in the Camp. Saturday evenings at Bonamanzi are “Bush Braai” evenings, a treat not to be missed. Lalapanzi Camp is the “hub” of Bonamanzi as this is the area where guests meet for activities, there is an amazing lounge area with it’s “feet” firmly planted in a very large watering hole! The perfect spot to enjoy sundowners or a “night cap”.
Finally, Bonamanzi has 4 exquisite camp sites, very privately situated in the sand forest with ablution facilities and electrical plug points.
The staff at Bonamanzi complete your experience with charm and efficient service. Their commitment and pride in being part of this jewel of Zululand permeates every aspect of your stay.
